The Midnight Signal
It was almost midnight when Adam was driving home after a long day at work. The roads were almost empty, and the only thing he could hear was the sound of his car engine.
كانت الساعة تقترب من منتصف الليل عندما كان آدم يقود سيارته إلى المنزل بعد يوم طويل في العمل. كانت الطرق شبه خالية، والشيء الوحيد الذي كان يستطيع سماعه هو صوت محرك سيارته.
Suddenly, his phone made a strange sound. He looked at the screen and saw a message from an unknown number.
فجأة، أصدر هاتفه صوتًا غريبًا. نظر إلى الشاشة ورأى رسالة من رقم غير معروف.
“Do not go home. Someone is waiting for you.”
"لا تذهب إلى المنزل. هناك شخص ينتظرك."
Adam stared at the message.
ظل آدم ينظر إلى الرسالة.
For a few seconds, he didn't know what to do. Maybe it was a joke. Maybe someone had sent the message to the wrong person.
لبضع ثوانٍ، لم يكن يعرف ماذا يفعل. ربما كانت مجرد مزحة. وربما أرسل شخص الرسالة إلى الشخص الخطأ.
Then another message arrived.
ثم وصلت رسالة أخرى.
“Turn left at the next street.”

Adam looked at the road ahead.
نظر آدم إلى الطريق أمامه.
He was confused, but something inside him told him not to ignore the warning. He turned left.
كان يشعر بالحيرة، لكن شيئًا بداخله أخبره ألا يتجاهل التحذير. فانحرف إلى اليسار.
He drove for another minute.
قاد لمدة دقيقة أخرى.
Then he saw a black car behind him.
ثم رأى سيارة سوداء خلفه.
The car turned left too.

Adam's heart started beating faster.

He pressed the gas pedal and drove faster.

The black car followed him.

Adam didn't know who was driving it, but he knew one thing: he didn't want to stop.

His phone made another sound.

“Take the old road. Do not use the main street.”

Adam quickly turned onto an old road that passed through a quiet industrial area.
انعطف آدم بسرعة إلى طريق قديم يمر عبر منطقة صناعية هادئة.
The road was dark, and there were almost no lights.

Adam looked in the mirror.

The black car was still following him.

Suddenly, the car behind him disappeared.

Adam slowed down.

“Where did it go?” he whispered.

He looked around.

The road was completely empty.

Adam stopped the car.

He opened it.

Inside, there was a USB drive and a note.

The note said:

Adam suddenly heard a noise behind him.

He turned around.

Someone was standing near the door.

Adam couldn't see his face.

The man took one step forward.

Adam stepped back.

Then the lights suddenly turned on.

“Adam?”

Adam recognized the voice.

It was his old friend, Mark.
كان صديقه القديم مارك.
“What are you doing here?” Adam asked.
سأل آدم: "ماذا تفعل هنا؟"
Mark looked worried.
بدا مارك قلقًا.
“I sent you the messages. You need to leave now.”
قال: "أنا من أرسلت لك الرسائل. يجب أن تغادر الآن."
“Why?”
"لماذا؟"
“Because someone has been watching you for the last two days. That USB contains information about a serious crime. They think you have it.”
قال: "لأن شخصًا ما كان يراقبك خلال اليومين الماضيين. وحدة التخزين هذه تحتوي على معلومات عن جريمة خطيرة. وهم يعتقدون أنها بحوزتك."
Before Adam could answer, they heard a loud noise outside.

Mark looked through the window.

“The car is back.”

The black car stopped outside the building.

Mark grabbed the USB drive.

“Run!”

They ran through the back door.

They crossed a narrow yard and climbed over a low wall.

Behind them, they heard footsteps.

They ran faster.

They reached a small street and stopped behind a parked truck.

For a few seconds, they didn't move.
لبضع ثوانٍ، لم يتحركا.
Then the black car drove past them.
ثم مرت السيارة السوداء بجانبهما.
Adam looked at Mark.
نظر آدم إلى مارك.
“What is happening?”
قال: "ماذا يحدث؟"
Mark took a deep breath.
أخذ مارك نفسًا عميقًا.
“We need to get to the police station before they find us.”
قال: "يجب أن نصل إلى قسم الشرطة قبل أن يعثروا علينا."
They waited until the street was clear, then started running again.
انتظرا حتى أصبح الشارع خاليًا، ثم بدآ في الركض مرة أخرى.
Twenty minutes later, they reached the police station.
بعد عشرين دقيقة، وصلا إلى قسم الشرطة.
Adam handed the USB drive to an officer and explained everything that had happened.
سلّم آدم وحدة التخزين إلى أحد الضباط وشرح كل ما حدث.
The officer looked at the drive and then at Adam.
نظر الضابط إلى وحدة التخزين ثم إلى آدم.
“You did the right thing by bringing this here.”
قال: "لقد فعلت الشيء الصحيح بإحضار هذا إلى هنا."
Adam finally relaxed.
استرخى آدم أخيرًا.
He looked at his friend and laughed.
نظر إلى صديقه وضحك.
“I think I need a quiet weekend.”
قال: "أعتقد أنني بحاجة إلى عطلة نهاية أسبوع هادئة."
Mark smiled.
ابتسم مارك.
“After tonight, I think we both do.”
قال مارك: "بعد هذه الليلة، أعتقد أننا نحتاج إليها كلانا."
