The Last Escape
It was nearly eleven at night when Daniel heard a loud crash outside his apartment. He quickly looked through the window, but the street was too dark to see clearly. Then he heard someone shouting.
كانت الساعة تقترب من الحادية عشرة ليلًا عندما سمع دانيال صوت اصطدام قوي خارج شقته. نظر بسرعة من النافذة، لكن الشارع كان مظلمًا جدًا بحيث لم يستطع الرؤية بوضوح. ثم سمع شخصًا يصرخ.
Daniel grabbed his jacket and ran downstairs. When he opened the front door, he saw a small delivery van standing in the middle of the street. One of its doors was open.
أمسك دانيال سترته وركض إلى الطابق السفلي. وعندما فتح الباب الرئيسي، رأى شاحنة توصيل صغيرة متوقفة في منتصف الشارع. كان أحد أبوابها مفتوحًا.
A man suddenly jumped out of the van and ran toward a dark alley.
قفز رجل فجأة من الشاحنة وركض باتجاه زقاق مظلم.
Daniel didn't know what was happening, but he noticed something strange. A young delivery driver was lying on the ground near the van.
لم يكن دانيال يعرف ما الذي يحدث، لكنه لاحظ شيئًا غريبًا. كان سائق توصيل شاب ملقى على الأرض بالقرب من الشاحنة.
Daniel immediately ran toward him.
ركض دانيال نحوه فورًا.
“Are you okay?” he asked.
سأله: "هل أنت بخير؟"
The driver slowly opened his eyes.
فتح السائق عينيه ببطء.
“My bag,” he said. “They took my bag.”
قال: "حقيبتي. لقد أخذوا حقيبتي."
Daniel looked toward the alley. The man was already disappearing into the darkness.
نظر دانيال نحو الزقاق. كان الرجل قد بدأ بالفعل يختفي في الظلام.
“Stay here. I’ll call the police,” Daniel said.
قال دانيال: "ابقَ هنا. سأتصل بالشرطة."
But before he could take out his phone, he heard an engine start.
لكن قبل أن يتمكن من إخراج هاتفه، سمع صوت محرك يعمل.
The van suddenly moved.
تحركت الشاحنة فجأة.
Daniel stepped back quickly as the van drove away.
تراجع دانيال بسرعة بينما انطلقت الشاحنة مبتعدة.
Then he noticed a small car parked nearby with its keys still inside.
ثم لاحظ سيارة صغيرة متوقفة بالقرب منه، وكانت مفاتيحها لا تزال بداخلها.
He knew he shouldn't take it, but the driver of the van was getting away.
كان يعرف أنه لا ينبغي أن يأخذها، لكن سائق الشاحنة كان يهرب.
Daniel looked around. The street was empty.
نظر دانيال حوله. كان الشارع خاليًا.
Then he heard the delivery driver shout, “Stop him!”
ثم سمع سائق التوصيل يصرخ: "أوقفه!"
Daniel made a quick decision. He jumped into his own bicycle, which was parked beside the building, and started riding after the van.
اتخذ دانيال قرارًا سريعًا. قفز على دراجته التي كانت متوقفة بجانب المبنى وبدأ في مطاردة الشاحنة.
The van was moving fast, but the street ahead was narrow. Daniel knew the area well, so he took a shortcut through a small side street.
كانت الشاحنة تتحرك بسرعة، لكن الشارع أمامها كان ضيقًا. كان دانيال يعرف المنطقة جيدًا، لذلك سلك طريقًا مختصرًا عبر شارع جانبي صغير.
He reached the next street before the van.

For a moment, he thought he had lost it.

Then he heard the engine.

The van appeared at the end of the street.

Daniel started riding faster.

The driver saw him and suddenly turned into another street.

Daniel followed.

After a few minutes, the van reached a dead end.
بعد عدة دقائق، وصلت الشاحنة إلى طريق مسدود.
The driver stopped, jumped out, and ran toward an old warehouse.
توقف السائق، وقفز خارج الشاحنة، وركض نحو مستودع قديم.
Daniel stopped his bicycle and called the police.
أوقف دانيال دراجته واتصل بالشرطة.
But the police were still several minutes away.
لكن الشرطة كانت لا تزال على بعد عدة دقائق.
Daniel looked at the warehouse.
نظر دانيال إلى المستودع.
He could hear the man moving inside.
كان يستطيع سماع الرجل يتحرك في الداخل.
Daniel wanted to wait, but then he heard a loud noise.
أراد دانيال الانتظار، لكنه سمع فجأة صوتًا عاليًا.
Crash!
صوت اصطدام!
A window on the second floor broke.
تحطمت نافذة في الطابق الثاني.
The man was trying to escape.
كان الرجل يحاول الهرب.
Daniel ran around the building and saw a metal staircase leading to the roof.
ركض دانيال حول المبنى ورأى درجًا معدنيًا يؤدي إلى السطح.
He quickly climbed the stairs.
صعد الدرج بسرعة.
When he reached the roof, he saw the man running toward the other side.
عندما وصل إلى السطح، رأى الرجل يركض نحو الجهة الأخرى.
“Stop!” Daniel shouted.
صرخ دانيال: "توقف!"
The man looked back and kept running.
نظر الرجل إلى الخلف واستمر في الركض.
Suddenly, he stopped.
فجأة، توقف.
There was nowhere else to go. The building ended at a high wall.
لم يكن هناك مكان آخر يمكنه الذهاب إليه. كان المبنى ينتهي عند جدار مرتفع.
The man turned around.
استدار الرجل.
“You don't understand!” he shouted.
صرخ: "أنت لا تفهم!"
Daniel stayed several steps away.
ظل دانيال على بعد عدة خطوات.
“Put the bag down and wait for the police.”
قال دانيال: "ضع الحقيبة وانتظر الشرطة."
The man looked at the bag in his hand.
نظر الرجل إلى الحقيبة التي كانت في يده.
For a few seconds, nobody moved.
لبضع ثوانٍ، لم يتحرك أحد.
Then the man slowly put the bag on the ground.
ثم وضع الرجل الحقيبة ببطء على الأرض.
A few minutes later, the police arrived and arrested him.
بعد بضع دقائق، وصلت الشرطة وألقت القبض عليه.
The delivery driver got his bag back. Inside it were several important packages that had to be delivered the next morning.
استعاد سائق التوصيل حقيبته. وكان بداخلها عدة طرود مهمة كان يجب توصيلها في صباح اليوم التالي.
The police thanked Daniel for calling them and helping the driver.
شكرت الشرطة دانيال على اتصاله بهم ومساعدته للسائق.
On his way home, Daniel finally had time to think about what had happened.
وفي طريق عودته إلى المنزل، أصبح لدى دانيال أخيرًا وقت ليفكر فيما حدث.
His hands were shaking, and he was exhausted.
كانت يداه ترتجفان، وكان يشعر بإرهاق شديد.
He had never expected an ordinary night to turn into such an adventure.
لم يتوقع أبدًا أن تتحول ليلة عادية إلى هذه المغامرة.
When he reached his apartment, he opened the door, sat on the sofa, and took a deep breath.
عندما وصل إلى شقته، فتح الباب وجلس على الأريكة وأخذ نفسًا عميقًا.
Then he smiled.
ثم ابتسم.
“I definitely need a quiet night tomorrow,” he said.
