The Race Against Time
It was six o’clock on a Saturday morning when Alex suddenly woke up. His phone was ringing loudly, and he could hear someone knocking on the front door. He looked at the clock and immediately jumped out of bed.
كانت الساعة السادسة صباحًا يوم السبت عندما استيقظ أليكس فجأة. كان هاتفه يرن بصوت عالٍ، وكان يستطيع سماع شخص يطرق باب المنزل. نظر إلى الساعة وقفز فورًا من السرير.
“What’s happening?” he asked as he opened the door.
"ماذا يحدث؟" سأل وهو يفتح الباب.
His neighbor was standing outside. He looked worried and was holding a small envelope in his hand.
كان جاره يقف بالخارج. وكان يبدو قلقًا ويمسك مظروفًا صغيرًا في يده.
“Alex, I need your help. This is very important,” he said.
قال: "أليكس، أحتاج إلى مساعدتك. هذا الأمر مهم جدًا."
Alex took the envelope and opened it. Inside, there was a train ticket and a short note. The note said that an important document had to be delivered to the city office before nine o’clock that morning.
أخذ أليكس المظروف وفتحه. كان بداخله تذكرة قطار وملاحظة قصيرة. كانت الملاحظة تقول إن هناك مستندًا مهمًا يجب تسليمه إلى مكتب المدينة قبل الساعة التاسعة صباحًا.
“The train leaves in twenty minutes,” his neighbor said. “I can’t go because I have to take my son to the hospital. Can you deliver it for me?”
قال جاره: "القطار سيغادر بعد عشرين دقيقة. لا أستطيع الذهاب لأن عليّ أن آخذ ابني إلى المستشفى. هل يمكنك توصيله نيابةً عني؟"
Alex looked at the clock again. He had never done anything like this before, but he knew the document was important.
نظر أليكس إلى الساعة مرة أخرى. لم يسبق له أن فعل شيئًا كهذا من قبل، لكنه كان يعرف أن المستند مهم.
“I’ll do it,” he said.
قال: "سأفعل ذلك."
Alex quickly changed his clothes, grabbed his bag, and ran out of the house. He had only fifteen minutes to reach the station.
غيّر أليكس ملابسه بسرعة، وأخذ حقيبته، وخرج من المنزل راكضًا. كان أمامه خمس عشرة دقيقة فقط للوصول إلى المحطة.
He ran down the street as fast as he could. When he reached the bus stop, he saw a bus leaving.
ركض في الشارع بأقصى سرعة يستطيعها. وعندما وصل إلى موقف الحافلات، رأى حافلة تغادر.
“Wait!” he shouted.
صرخ: "انتظر!"
But the bus was already gone.
لكن الحافلة كانت قد غادرت بالفعل.
Alex checked his phone. Only ten minutes were left.
نظر أليكس إلى هاتفه. لم يتبقَّ سوى عشر دقائق.
He decided to run instead. The station was not very far, but the streets were crowded. He moved between people, crossed the road carefully, and kept checking the time.
قرر أن يركض بدلًا من ذلك. لم تكن المحطة بعيدة جدًا، لكن الشوارع كانت مزدحمة. كان يتحرك بين الناس، ويعبر الطريق بحذر، ويستمر في النظر إلى الوقت.
Suddenly, he heard a loud sound behind him. A bicycle had fallen near the sidewalk, and an old man was trying to stand up.
فجأة، سمع صوتًا عاليًا خلفه. كانت دراجة قد سقطت بالقرب من الرصيف، وكان رجل مسن يحاول الوقوف.
Alex stopped.
توقف أليكس.
For a moment, he looked at the station and then at the man.
للحظة، نظر إلى المحطة ثم إلى الرجل.
He knew he was running out of time.
كان يعرف أن الوقت ينفد منه.
But he couldn't just leave the man there.
لكنه لم يستطع أن يترك الرجل هناك.
“Are you okay?” Alex asked.
سأل أليكس: "هل أنت بخير؟"
“Yes, I think so. I just lost my balance,” the man replied.
أجاب الرجل: "نعم، أعتقد ذلك. لقد فقدت توازني فقط."
Alex helped him sit on a nearby bench. Then he quickly picked up the bicycle and gave the man his phone.
ساعده أليكس على الجلوس على مقعد قريب. ثم رفع الدراجة بسرعة وأعطى الرجل هاتفه.
“Call someone you trust,” he said.
قال: "اتصل بشخص تثق به."
The man thanked him, and Alex immediately started running again.
شكره الرجل، وبدأ أليكس يركض مرة أخرى على الفور.
When he finally saw the station, he checked the time.
عندما رأى المحطة أخيرًا، نظر إلى الوقت.
Eight fifty-seven.
كانت الساعة الثامنة وسبعًا وخمسين دقيقة.
He had only three minutes.
لم يتبقَّ أمامه سوى ثلاث دقائق.
Alex ran up the stairs and reached the platform just as the train doors were closing.
ركض أليكس على الدرج ووصل إلى الرصيف في اللحظة التي كانت فيها أبواب القطار تُغلق.
“Wait!” he shouted.
صرخ: "انتظر!"
A passenger inside the train saw him and pressed the emergency door button. The doors opened again for a few seconds.
رآه أحد الركاب داخل القطار وضغط على زر فتح الباب. فُتحت الأبواب مرة أخرى لبضع ثوانٍ.
Alex jumped inside.
قفز أليكس إلى الداخل.
He was breathing heavily, but he was smiling.
كان يتنفس بصعوبة، لكنه كان يبتسم.
“I made it,” he whispered.
همس: "لقد نجحت."
During the journey, Alex looked at the envelope. He suddenly realized something important. The document was not just a piece of paper. It was connected to a project that would provide jobs for many people in his neighborhood.
أثناء الرحلة، نظر أليكس إلى المظروف. وفجأة أدرك شيئًا مهمًا. لم يكن المستند مجرد قطعة من الورق. كان مرتبطًا بمشروع سيوفر وظائف للعديد من الأشخاص في منطقته.
When Alex arrived at the city office, he handed over the document. The manager checked the time and smiled.
عندما وصل أليكس إلى مكتب المدينة، سلّم المستند. نظر المدير إلى الوقت وابتسم.
“You arrived just in time,” he said.
قال: "لقد وصلت في الوقت المناسب تمامًا."
Alex smiled and took a deep breath.
ابتسم أليكس وأخذ نفسًا عميقًا.
On his way home, he thought about the morning. He had been tired, scared, and under pressure, but he had kept going.
وفي طريق عودته إلى المنزل، فكر في ذلك الصباح. كان متعبًا وخائفًا وتحت ضغط، لكنه استمر في المحاولة.
That day, Alex learned something he would never forget: sometimes, the most important moments in life begin with a simple decision to help someone.
