A New Beginning | An Easy English Story for B1 Learners
A New Beginning

Last Saturday, I woke up earlier than usual. I had no plans for the day, but I felt that I needed to do something different. I had spent the previous few weeks working hard, staying at home, and following the same routine every day. I wanted to take a break, clear my mind, and enjoy my weekend.
After breakfast, I decided to go for a walk in a small park near my house. The weather was beautiful. The sun was shining, and there was a light breeze. I put on my comfortable shoes, took a bottle of water, and left home.
While I was walking through the park, I noticed a small coffee shop that I had never seen before. It was located in a quiet corner, surrounded by trees and colorful flowers. The place looked warm and comfortable, so I decided to go inside.
I ordered a cup of coffee and sat near the window. While I was waiting for my coffee, I noticed an old bookshelf next to my table. There were many interesting books on it. I chose a small book about traveling and started reading it.
After a few minutes, an old man came and sat at the table next to mine. He smiled and said, “That is a good book. I read it a few years ago.”
I smiled and replied, “Really? I have just started reading it.”
We started talking about the book, and then our conversation moved to traveling. He told me that he had visited many countries when he was younger. He had traveled to Italy, Spain, Turkey, and several other places.
“I always wanted to travel,” I said, “but I never had enough time or money.”
The old man smiled. “Sometimes, we wait for the perfect time to do something. But the perfect time may never come. You just have to start with what you have.”
His words stayed in my mind.
We continued talking for almost an hour. Before he left, he gave me a small piece of advice.
“Do not be afraid of making mistakes,” he said. “Every mistake can teach you something.”
I thanked him, finished my coffee, and left the café.
On my way home, I thought about what he had said. I realized that I had been waiting for the right moment to change my life. I always told myself that I would learn a new skill when I had more free time. I would travel when I had more money. I would exercise when I was less busy. I would start reading when I finished all my work.
But there was always a reason to wait.
When I arrived home, I opened my laptop and started looking for English courses. Learning English had been one of my goals for a long time, but I had never taken it seriously. I found an online course that looked interesting and decided to start the following Monday.
Then I opened my notebook and wrote down three goals.
The first goal was to improve my English.
The second goal was to exercise three times a week.
The third goal was to save money for a short trip.
I knew that these goals would not be easy, but I felt excited. I finally understood that I did not need to change everything in one day. I only needed to take one small step at a time.
On Monday morning, I woke up early and studied English for thirty minutes before work. It was difficult at first because I was still sleepy, but I continued.
After work, I went for a short walk instead of watching television. I also put a small amount of money into a savings box.
Weeks passed, and slowly, my new routine became easier.
My English improved. I became more active, and I started feeling more confident. After three months, I had saved enough money to take a short trip to another city.
When I looked back, I realized that everything had started with a simple walk in the park and a short conversation with a stranger.
That day taught me an important lesson: sometimes, a small change can create a big difference in our lives.
We do not always need a perfect plan. Sometimes, we simply need the courage to begin.
And that Saturday was the beginning of something new for me.
