: The Present Simple Tense:  A Comprehensive Guide

The Present Simple tense is the foundational building block of English grammar. While its name can be slightly misleading, we rarely use it to describe actions happening at this exact second. Instead, think of it as the go-to tense for things that are timeless, regular, or generally true.

يستخدم المضارع البسيط  للتعبير عن العادات ,الروتين اليومي,والحقائق العامة,والمواعيدالثابتةز يتكون من التصريف الاول للفعل, مع اضافة (s) او (es) او (ies)

للفاعل المفرد(he /she /it)

بينما يبقي الفاعل في المصدر مع باقي الضماثر

I /they /we / you

 1. When to Use the Present Simple Tense (Usage)

We use the Present Simple tense in three main scenarios:

Habits and Repeated Actions: To express routines, habits, or actions that happen regularly.

Example: Scientists do experiments in laboratories.

Example: Insects harm crops.

Scientific and General Facts: For things that are always true.

Example: Water freezes to ice at 0°C.

Example: The sun rises in the east.

Requests and Instructions: Giving directions or step-by-step guides.

Example: "How do I get to the station?" ➔ "Go straight on, then turn left."

 2. How to Form the Present Simple

The structure of the verb depends entirely on the subject pronoun:

A) With (I / You / We / They)

Use the base form (infinitive) of the verb without any changes.

Structure: Subject + Verb (Base Form)

Example: They play football every Friday.

B) With (He / She / It) - Third Person Singular

You must add -s, -es, or -ies to the base verb.

Structure: Subject + Verb(-s/-es)

Example: He plays basketball every Friday.

Spelling Rules for He/She/It:

Standard Verbs: Just add -s (visit ➔ visits).

Verbs ending in -ch, -sh, -ss, -x, -o: Add -es (watch ➔ watches, fix ➔ fixes, go ➔ goes).

Verbs ending in Consonant + Y: Change -y to -ies (fly ➔ flies, cry ➔ cries).

Verbs ending in Vowel + Y: Just add -s (play ➔ plays).

 3. Negative and Question Forms

To make sentences negative or to ask questions, we use the auxiliary verbs Do and Does.

Sentence TypeI / You / We / TheyHe / She / It
NegativeSubject + do not (don't) + VerbSubject + does not (doesn't) + Verb
ExampleWe don't like coffee. She does not like coffee.
QuestionsDo + Subject + Verb?Does + Subject + Verb?
ExampleDo you live in Cairo?Does he live in Cairo?

Note: In negative sentences and questions for (He/She/It), the main verb returns to its base form because "does" already carries the third-person marker.

4. The Special Verb: "To Be"

The verb 'be' is irregular and does not follow the "do/does" rules. Here is its affirmative form:

I am (Short form: I'm)

You / We / They are (Short form: You're / We're / They're)

He / She / It is (Short form: He's / She's / It's)

 5. Key Adverbs of Frequency (Keywords)

These words are frequently used with the present simple to show how often something happens:

Alwaysدائما, usuallyعادة, oftenغالبا, frequentlyمن الحين  للاخر , sometimesاحيانا, occasionallyمن الحين للاخر, everمن قبل, neverابدا, every dayكل يوم/week.

Moving from the active voice to the Passive Voice in the Present Simple tense is a fantastic next step for your comprehensive grammar guide!

Just like we fixed the formatting for the active voice, this section needs to be incredibly clean, direct, and structured for your readers (and for Google AdSense standards).

Here is the exact layout and content you should add to your guide:

 7. The Present Simple: Passive Voice

We use the active voice to focus on who performs the action. However, we switch to the Passive Voice when the focus is on the action itself or the receiver of the action, either because the doer is obvious, unknown, or not important.

The Rule & Structure

To change a Present Simple sentence from active to passive, use this simple formula:

$$\text{Object} + \text{am / is / are} + \text{Verb (Past Participle - V3)}$$

If you want to mention who performed the action at the end of the sentence, introduce them using the word "by".

Active vs. Passive Examples

Active Voice (Subject does the action)Passive Voice (Focus on the object/action)
Scientists do experiments.Experiments are done (by scientists).
Insects harm crops.Crops are harmed (by insects).
The chef prepares the food. The food is prepared (by the chef).
They don't clean the rooms daily. The rooms aren't cleaned daily.
Does he write the reports? Are the reports written by him?

Grammar Tip for Your Readers:

Regular verbs just take -ed in the past participle (e.g., harm ➔ harmed). However, keep an eye out for irregular verbs, which change completely (e.g., do ➔ done, write ➔ written).
